CDM/JI

EU ETS compliance buyers have the possibility to use emission reduction credits from projects in developing countries (CDM) or in economy of transition countries (JI). The "Linking" Directive 2004/101/CE allows to use emission reductions from CDM and JI projects (CERs and ERUs) within the ETS scheme, "converting" CER/ERU into EUA, up to a limit established in the NAP of each Member State. Clean Development Mechanisms help to finance sustainable projects in developing countries and in economy of transition countries and at the same time allows ETS buyer to reduce their cost of compliance.
